The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships recently, dominated an impressive win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The women-only meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their crowns.

Previous champions received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
